Paleloni is a traditional small village (less than 50 houses) ideal for
those seeking a rural, peaceful location untouched by tourist development or
activity. The homes are situated just off a quiet country road enjoying
panoramic and uninterrupted views of Crete's majestic white mountains.
Less than 1km away is the larger village of Kefalas which boasts 4 Kafenions
and a well stocked store plus a bus service to the former capital city,
Chania,a shoppers dream. As well as catering for those who prefer
traditional fare with numerous tavernas around the old harbor those with
more cosmopolitan
tastes are provided for. Like Chania, the thriving resort of Rethymno isjust
40 minutes drive away.
Back to Paleloni and a 5 minute drive away is Ombrosgialos, a
beautiful,secluded cove ideal for swimming or lazing in the popular Kafenion.
Slightly further away but within a 20 minute drive are the villages:
Gavalahori, with its own museum and roman
wells, Georgioupoli, (20 minutes) a bustling summer hive of tourist
activity, and the smaller villages of Plaka and Almerida (10 minutes).
Also 10 minutes away is the town of Vamos where a 24 hour-a-day health
centre is situated as
well as banking, post-office facilities, small supermarket, petrol station,
cafeneons and a couple of tavernas.
Akrotiri international airport (Chania) is 50 minutes drive away and both
Chania (Souda) and Rethymno offer daily car/passenger ferries to mainland
Greece via Piraeus (Athens) and various other islands.
